Animal Health Technician-Extra-Help

The Sonoma County Animal Shelter seeks an intermittent Extra-Help Animal Health Technician! 

As an Animal Health Technician, you will assist veterinarians with exams and surgeries by:

· Lifting and restraining animals of various sizes

· Administering daily treatments and medications per veterinarian instructions

· Vaccinating animals

· Keeping records of controlled drugs

· Recording veterinary information on health records

· Compiling veterinarian care requirement lists

· Euthanizing animals and disposing of their remains

· Performing brain removals on rabies suspects

· Ordering and taking inventory of supplies

Other duties may include assisting with or perform animal behavior assessments and performing dispatch duties by handling calls from the public and communicating with animal control officers in the field via radio.

The ideal candidate will have experience working as an Animal Health Technician for a government agency. Possession of a Registered Veterinary Technician license (formerly known as an Animal Health Technician Certificate) issued by the Veterinary Medical Board is highly desirable.

Qualifications for this position normally include two years of experience performing paramedical tasks in a veterinary office or animal shelter or possession of a valid Animal Health Technician Certificate issued by the California State Board of Examiners. Possession of an Animal Health Technician Certificate is highly desirable.
