    Woods Humane Society is looking for a registered veterinary technician (RVT) to work 40 hours per week in our high quality, high volume spay/neuter surgery clinic. Woods is a thriving, state-of-the-art, non-profit organization that has served the needs of our community for 61years. We're located in San Luis Obispo, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles along California's Central Coast, a region with beautiful beaches, hiking, biking, a thriving wine industry, fantastic restaurants and a laid-back lifestyle.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be currently California licensed RVT
    • Must be proficient with dentals (including digital dental x-ray)
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Familiarity with computers
    • The ideal candidate will be a very organized, self-motivated, team-oriented person with a personal commitment to animal welfare. Must have exceptional attention to detail
    • Willingness and ability to work with animals of all temperaments (including fractious animals) and handle all animals in a caring and humane manner
    • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
    • Willingness to work cooperatively with supervisor, colleagues, veterinarians, and representatives from outside organizations at all times

    Responsibilities:

    • Scheduling of surgical procedures (spay, neuter, dentals, other minor surgeries)
    • Administer pre-anesthetic and induction medications, intubation, monitoring throughout anesthesia and recovery and ensure the safety of all animals through the entire surgery process
    • Maintain controlled drug log in accordance with DEA standards
    • Respond quickly and proficiently to any emergencies that may arise
    • Perform nursing tasks, including but not limited to: administering medications and/or supportive fluids, performing basic exams, collecting blood and urine, cleaning ears and wounds, applying external parasite control, clipping nails, microchipping, and vaccinating
    • Perform dental exams, prophylaxis, digital dental x-rays, and simple extractions
    • Identify signs of animal behavior, illness, disease and injury
    • Perform physical exams on fractious animals AFTER they are under anesthesia
    • Assist with euthanasia in the rare instances that it is required
    • Data entry and record keeping
